Local SEO Services Website

Project Overview

This is the main project I’m focused on at the moment in my free time. I’m developing a website which seeks to convert visitors who want to hire a local service provider by referring them to pay-per-call networks. Traffic will come primarily from bottom of funnel keywords with transactional intent. I’ll develop the website through SEO techniques including keyword research, content optimisation, and link building, and work to increase the site’s domain authority and reach over time.

Current Status – Month 2 – June 2026

As of June 2026 – I’ve conducted niche, customer, and keyword research. I’m currently working on the website branding, initial launch content, and website prep tasks (setting up analytics etc) so I’m ready to launch by the end of June.

Previous Updates – Month 1 – May 2026

I was keen to start a project that could offer me the flexibility to develop on my own time, as I have a full time job, which I enjoy and am in no hurry to give up. I’d considered freelancing and consulting as a side business, but I wanted something that provided me with flexibility over my own time, and anything that meant committing to projects for a client didn’t qualify. So an SEO project seemed like a good idea. At worst, I’d develop some skills that would help in my career development, so there wasn’t really any downside.

I had previously identified lead generation as an area that could provide good opportunities for me, given my PPC and digital marketing skill set. After some research into potential niches, I felt that local service provision in the home improvement industry could provide a good range of opportunities. I suspected that many local service providers likely weren’t very good at SEO and were tied to a specific catchment area. I, on the other hand, could use my own digital marketing skills and find locations with weak SEO competition that I could rank pages for fairly easily.

The first stage was validating the idea – so I did keyword and competitor research using Ahrefs and Moz. My suspicions about there being plenty of SEO opportunities were confirmed, and I set about doing customer research on Reddit to discover what common pain points I could solve. I used Claude to create a browser extension to capture research data from Reddit and analyse the information to see what homeowners main problems were.

Given that I am not a service provider, the main complaint that I could satisfy was providing a website that could match homeowners with vetted services providers in their areas, so the homeowner didn’t have to research and co-ordinate with contractors to arrange an appointment at their property.

After this, the rest of my time in May was spend getting the website setup, researchig transactional intent keywords, and planning content and strategy for the websites launch.
